The CommitteeA group of women met at the first planning meeting on Thursday, March 25th, 2009, and brainstormed the possibilities for a convening of the anniversary of lesbian women and activism in the 1970s. Out of that first meeting we developed a series of events for the Spring semester of 2010 and the idea of a Fall festival/gathering/conference, all under the title: “In Amerika They Call Us Dykes: Lesbian Lives in the 1970s.” We took the title of our series from the historic chapter on lesbians in Our Bodies, Ourselves, a book that changed the lives of so many dykes who read it. We loved its confrontational tone and its challenge to a lesbophobic world. |
